Sea Launch succesfully lifted the Galaxy 18 satellite to geostationary orbit on May 21, 2008. A Zenit-3SL rocket lifted off at 2:43am PDT (9:43 GMT) from the Odyssey Launch Platform, precisely on schedule. Spacecraft separation occurred an hour later, with acquisition following shortly afterward from the Hartebeesthoek ground station in South Africa. All systems performed nominally throughout the mission.
Weighing 4,642 kg (10,234 lb), this satellite will enable Intelsat to provide advanced cable television, data and telecommunications services to customers throughout North America, Puerto Rico and Hawaii.
